Wired: E-tail Fraud Remains a Threat
E-commerce firms expect to lose about $2.6 billion in fraudulent purchases this year, according to CyberSource, an increase of $700 million dollars from 2003. That gross increase represents a zero growth in fraud as a percentage of sales, however, as e-commerce transactions have taken off. Most e-tailers are keeping up with fraud detection, losing about 1.8 percent of sales to fraud, up only 0.1 percent from last year.
