Manhunt 2 Rating Goes from 'Adults Only' to 'Mature,' to No Rhyme or Reason

Manhunt: featuring (literal)

Despite bans in Europe and its initial "Adults Only" rating, the Entertainment Software Rating Board has decided to re-rated Rockstar Games' Manhunt 2 to "Mature."

An "Adults Only" rating is a metaphoric diagnosis of leprosy in the gaming software world. Console makers Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Wii, and Sony Playstation do not allow games with this rating to be published on their respective consoles.

In its statement, the ESRB listed a few parent groups it said were satisfied with the "Mature" rating and dropped FTC statistics, such as that 89 percent of parents are involved with the purchase of games their kids play. However, there was no mention as to why the game was originally rated as "Adults Only."
