Scarlett Johansson on eNote
For up-and-coming bands, getting airtime on a radio station — whose mailbox is typically deluged with new singles — is a difficult task.
In lieu of mailing a CD that will never be played, musicians can email sample tracks via eNote, powered by Yangaroo, which recently patented its own digital media distribution system.
eNote enables recipients to listen to a song snippet, view album art and check release dates from their email. They are also directed to Yangaroo's online system, where they can download broadcast-quality versions of the music.
According to Advertising Age, Columbia tried the service for the Offspring single "Hammerhead." The label is reportedly "very happy" with the results. From its May 5 release, the single is now No. 9 on the Radio & Records active-rock chart and No. 16 on Billboard.
Other eNote artists include Green Day, Scarlett Johansson, Atreyu, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus, Neil Diamond and Wyclef Jean. Their album art and music can be sampled on the eNote subsite, which uses Apple's coverflow design to showcase the artists.
