eMusic has announced a deal with AT&T that will make independent music available for purchase via mobile phone, reports The New York Times.
The deal will make all of eMusic's 2.7 million licensed songs available to AT&T cell customers. Songs will be available at $7.49 for five tracks, a bit more than the $.99 online standard. The added expense of the mobile network is cited as the cause of the higher price point.
eMusic's catalog is made up exclusively of independent, non-major label acts, focused on selling a few songs from a lot of artists as opposed to a lot of songs from a handful of performers.
eMusic's service is not compatible with Apple's iPhone, for which AT&T is the exclusive provider.
