Top EMI shareholders show signs of accepting the £3.2bn Terra Firma bid for the historic UK-based music group, reports the Financial Times. A major shareholder notably expressed he was "not unhappy" with the deal. Last December EMI turned down a 300p/share proposal from Permira, followed by a 260p/share proposal from Warner Music in February.
Chairman John Gildersleeve of the EMI board publicly supports the 265p cash offer from Terra Firma. One top-10 investor noted Gildersleeve "is making the difference" for the company.
Gildersleeve became EMI's chairman in January.
EMI shares sat higher than Terra Firma’s offer, closing at 271p without a significant change change on Tuesday.
Some investors continue to harbor the hope that Warner Music will jump back into the running with a higher bid, despite regulatory issues that would aggravate the overseas acquisition.
