eMarketer: This Is Not Your Grandparent's Web

The senior online demographic may have little appeal now to most marketers, but today's Baby Boomers are tomorrow's seniors, and they have $1 trillion in spending power. eMarketer estimates that in 2005 there are 33.2 million people online in the US between the ages of 50 and 64, triple the number of 65+ online users.

For many Boomers, the internet is an essential part of life, and financial services, health care and real estate are just some of the categories that will see a sea change as Boomers increase demand for online information.

According to Pew, etween March 2000 and January 2005, the percentage of computer users age 50-64 increased from 54 percent to 67 percent; and as users aged, computer use among those age 65 and older also increased, from 20 percent to 31 percent, in the same period.
