The print version of five-year-old Elle Girl magazine will be shut down by Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., but Elle Girl will become an online publication and emphasize mobile content, reports AdAge. Hachette President-CEO Jack Kliger has been driving the web/mobile approach. Anne L. Janas, a Hachette spokeswoman, confirmed a report on FishbowlNY.com that print version was being shut down.
"After running this magazine for the past five years and continually doing research on the teen market, Jack is totally redefining the strategy," Janas is quoted by AdAge as saying.
The move is surprising, considering that Elle Girl had increased ad pages 46.1 percent last year to 749.3 and reported average paid circulation of 601,149 for 2H05, up 17.9 percent from the year-earlier period.
