Denmark retained the number-one position among 65 countries in the Economist Intelligence Unit's ratings of the Web-readiness of countries, reports eMarketer. The U.S. showed strong gains to retake the number-two position after falling back last year. But Europe dominated. Western European countries took seven of the top 10 spots; Nordic countries took four.
Denmark (first), Sweden (third), Finland (sixth) and Norway (ninth) remain best in class in key areas of connectivity, including mobile penetration and Internet use.
Denmark and Sweden are also standard-setters in e-government implementation. Broadband development helped Switzerland rise to fourth place. The Netherlands kept its eighth spot.
