MySpace will debut its first original short-form video series, titled Prom Queen, from newly formed media production firm Vuguru, headed by former Walt Disney chief Michael Eisner, reports the Financial Times.
Prom Queen debuts this Sunday. New episodes will run each day, each one lasting just 90 seconds. A day after their MySpace debut, the episodes will be repurposed elsewhere on the internet.
Characters appearing in Prom Queen will have their own MySpace pages complete with standalone video blogs.
News Corp. is positioning MySpace as an ideal distribution platform for media companies with its huge user base and targeting abilities. Those traits are also meant to make it attractive to advertisers looking for online video opportunities.
