E-Dating Very Effective, although Growth Slowing

Even as revenues to the online dating market plateau, a new study shows the medium is extremely effective at helping customers find lasting relationships, according to a new British study covered by ClickZ. Only one out of 20 dates arranged by online services failed to meet at least a second time, with the average run of relationship running about seven months. Almost one in five lasted more than a year and a half. Other interesting results include a finding that men tended to be more committed to the relationships than women; chat applications bred more intimate relationships than email relationships; phone conversationalists were even more intimate; and daters tended to eschew the use of webcams. Jupiter Research reports that many fewer visitors are browsing online dating sites - down by about a third from a year ago - with paid customers growing only about 20 percent in 2004 and projected to grow a paltry nine percent in 2005.
