E-commerce Firms More Upfront on Fees, Charges

NYT: Now on the Web: The Total Price

The New York Times reports that many prominent e-commerce firms are including extra fees, like taxes and shipping in their initial price listings. Part of the change comes from the realization that deferred sticker shock hurts both sales and branding. Another big factor, however, has been the fact that with so many different local taxes and shipping charges, it has taken some time to incorporate the necessary engineering.
