eBay Woos Power Sellers, Punishes the Baddies

Ticking off its
New Years resolutions

EBay is introducing price changes and tighter sales standards designed to keep quality sellers, boost customer service, and revive growth.

Listing fees across the board will be reduced to drive sellers to list a higher number of items and use pictures more often, reports Reuters.

In the US, the change will come February 20 for both auction and fixed-price items.

Sellers shall receive sales incentives like low listing fees and priority ranking. Those with high customer dissatisfaction rankings will receive lower priority in searches.

eBay is also planning to take a bigger cut of sales.

"Put simply, we will make more of our money when sellers are successful," eBay's soon-to-be-CEO John Donahoe said in a statement.

The auction site has long suffered from slowed growth, which is about half what it was three years ago.
