DoubleClick Starts Carve-Up

DoubleClick, the online technology giant that agreed to sell itself to a group of private investors recently, announced it is piecing off its Enterprise Marketing Management products to Aprimo, a provider of such services to large corporations. When DoubleClick first announced it was on the block last year, many firms eyed various chunks, but it wound up getting swallowed whole by one group, presumably to be parceled off in logical amputations that could command the best total price.

The terms of the Aprimo deal haven't been disclosed, but DoubleClick, still a public firm, may have to report results from the transaction in quarterly filings that should happen before the original acquisition closes in the third quarter. [A DoubleClick spokesman told MarketingVOX Tuesday afternoon that the firm would have to make an SEC disclosure within four business days.]

DoubleClick products SmartPath and Ensemble will be moved over to Aprimo, with both DoubleClick and Aprimo helping transition DoubleClick's 70 enterprise marketing management clients - some of whom are also using that firms data management and email services.

The purchase brings Aprimo's staff up to 175. The company will remain based in Indianapolis.
