Ad Age: 'Do Not Call' FTC Chairman Tim Muris Resigns
The Bush Administration announced a new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chairman before the current one could even resign, the Washington version of the door hitting someone on the way out. Outgoing FTC Chairman Tim Muris vigorously drove the Do Not Call Registry into existence, which didn't endear him to telemarketers, but made consumers rejoice in the resulting silence after more than 50 million households signed up within a few weeks.
The White House announced Muris's replacement will be Deborah Majoras, a former Justice Department attorney who, in the antitrust division, helped develop the settlement with Microsoft that largely annulled the previous administration's courtroom victories over the convicted monopolist.
