Doerr: No Google Browser

CNET: Investor doesn't see browser in Google's future

At San Francisco's Web 2.0, celebrity venture capitalist and Google board member John Doerr threw cold water on rumors that Google would be coming out with a browser to compete with Microsoft. Several signs, such as browser engineer hires and domain name registrations, were thought by some to indicate Google was aiming at Microsoft's web browser dominance. Some even extrapolated that a Google browser could become a new sort of operating system and could help beat back the Redmond giant's PC monopoly.
