Yuppies, also an Italian comedy
The yuppie stereotype of yesterday has much in common with today's connected professional living the digital lifestyle: drinking gourmet coffee, wearing a Burberry trench coat, eating tuna sashimi, drinking bottled water and learning as much about fine wine as possible.
According to style.com (via fashion.psfk), those are just a few of the traits of the yuppie according to The Yuppie Handbook, a 1984 piece of social-anthropological satire.
From emailing on the go with a pair of conspicuous white earbuds hanging out, to picking up a macchiato at Starbucks, "the archetypal yuppie of the eighties sounds precisely like, um, everyone you know," writes Style.com's Jeff Gordinier.
From the handbook: "A yuppie most nearly approaches sainthood, when he or she is able to accomplish more things in a single day than is humanly possible." And that was long before Blackberries!
