Dell Web Push Takes Aim at the Holiday Wishlist

Dell is prepping to launch an ambitious holiday campaign that aims to get more Dell computers onto Christmas wishlists, thanks to a flurry of web tools and a help from celebrities.

At Yours Is Here, users can build video emails with celebrities like Burt Reynolds and Brooke Burke, urging family members to buy them a Dell they select, according to ClickZ.

The site includes a virtual piggy bank app that is linked to a PayPal account. Users can post it on Facebook and MySpace pages to ask friends to donate to their Dell cause.

Aside from stimulating a future in online panhandling, Dell Marketing Director David Clifton hopes the piggybanks will spur friends to give each other cash donations — an act of loving charity somewhat reminiscent of mobsters in Goodfellas.

Backing up the online marketing, Dell will also launch TV spots featuring Reynolds, placements on the Jumbotron in Times Square, and internet video spots.

Mother masterminded the campaign, while the microsite was made by Poke.
