Deadly Sins of Online Writing

Gerry McGovern Seven deadly sins of web writing

Some good tips here on what to avoid when writing online.

Whilst I'm clearly not an expert in this field, there are a few points that I'd like to add to this list of sins. Please feel free to suggest your own:

  • Don't be dull. If you can make someone laugh, cry or think, you will be half way there to building a relationship with them.

  • Avoid preaching. Write in an inclusive way, and elicit feedback.
  • Be consistent. Flashes of brilliance are not enough.
  • Make the effort. If you decide to engage an audience, then go all out to do it properly. For instance, currently a high percentage of business blogs are guilty of very irregular delivery.
  • Know when to shut up.
