Gerry McGovern Seven deadly sins of web writing
Some good tips here on what to avoid when writing online.
Whilst I'm clearly not an expert in this field, there are a few points that I'd like to add to this list of sins. Please feel free to suggest your own:
- Don't be dull. If you can make someone laugh, cry or think, you will be half way there to building a relationship with them.
- Avoid preaching. Write in an inclusive way, and elicit feedback.
- Be consistent. Flashes of brilliance are not enough.
- Make the effort. If you decide to engage an audience, then go all out to do it properly. For instance, currently a high percentage of business blogs are guilty of very irregular delivery.
- Know when to shut up.
