DC Solicits User Comics Submissions

DC Comics has launched a new site that seeks to collect user-submitted comics with an eye to paying some, reports The New York Times.

The publisher is looking to open the door to some of those looking to break into the comics business.

Zudacomics.com will allow people to submit eight panels of their best work.  Submissions will be voted on by other members of the public. One a month, a panel will be chosen by the DC editors and the public, and the winner will receive a one year contract with the comics company. The editors also reserve the right to declare six instant winners a year.

Submissions need to be in a standard format, but other than that, there are no apparent hard and fast rules.

DC is viewing the contest as a way to get fans and amateur creators excited, as well as an opportunity to increase its stable of intellectual property. Those properties have recently proven to be extremely lucrative for purposing across media and as licensed products.
