Current TV Turns to Viewer-Created Ads

Al Gore's Current TV is giving its website's users the chance to create commercials for its corporate sponsors, offering $1,000 for every spot aired on TV, AdJab writes (via MediaBuyerPlanner). If the corporate sponsor were to more broadly distribute a spot, its creator would get more financial rewards - between $5,000 and $50,000, depending on where and how the ad is used.

Sony is the first corporate sponsor looking for contributions, while others wait in the wings. Current TV launched in August 2005, targets viewers ages 18-34, and features a series of short segments, 15 seconds to five minutes long.
