Oh, to go where
those Crocs have been
Crocs, Inc. has launched Cities by Foot, a "travel video guide" where young Crocs-wearers record their adventures in six major cities: Aspen, Denver, Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Francisco and Vail.
In the style of E! Network's travel show Wild On!, the hosts visit restaurants and other attractions while sharing trivia about the area. Their feet, ensconced in varying pairs of Crocs, enjoy frequent close-ups.
"Our goal was to develop a new platform that transcends geographic boundaries, gives back to the community and serves a needed niche" while reinforcing Crocs as "the perfect travel accessory," said Marketing Director Ed Wunsch.
Wunsch ultimately aspires for Crocs by Foot to become a fertile space for cross-promotion and co-branding. To encourage geo-specific advertisers, the vignettes often feature local businesses.
Last month rapper Kanye West launched a travel site, Kanye Travel Ventures. Unlike Crocs by Foot, which is entertainment-oriented, Kanye Travel adheres to a Priceline model: booking hotels, airfare and cars.
But while the approaches may vary slightly, Crocs by Foot and Kanye Travel share a common goal. Each seeks to ingratiate brands to users while fueling — and in Kanye's case, helping fulfill — travel fantasies.
