Critic: Cingular and Travelocity Serving up Spyware Still

Edelman

Anti-spyware advocate Ben Edelman reports that wireless company Cingular and travel site Travelocity continue to deliver ads laden with spyware, writes ClickZ.

Edelman says despite reaching a settlement with the state of New York, the companies are still using spyware applications to deliver their ads. Edelman has presented evidence that just in the last couple of weeks Travelocity was serving ads via Vendare Media's Traffic Marketplace platform. Travelocity denies the allegations and says it's looking into them internally.

Cingular, Edelman says, is using Fullcontext to serve up spyware-infested ads as a result of a content swap between Motive Interactive and Right Media. Cingular did not respond when asked for comments.

Edelman claims to have more examples of large companies' use of spyware vendors to serve their ads. Of those that have previously settled with New York, Edelman says, Priceline.com has substantially reduced its spyware advertising.
