Internet Retailer: Shoppers’ worries about using credit cards online go beyond identity theft
Those would-be buyers that prove tentative in handing over their credit card information may not be so concerned about fraudulent charges. Half of users, as reported in a study by Jupiter, fear that the information will be used to target more spam and other unwanted marketing communications. Only 30 percent reported fear that the merchant would fail to ship the goods, and a mere 20 percent worried about unauthorized charges. Interestingly, older customers were the ones concerned about identity fraud, with 63 percent of people over 55 years indicating it seemed like a threat, versus 56 percent aged 18 to 41.
