Consumers Online, but 28 Percent Not Buying

Just about everybody who's online now buys online, right? Apparently not, according to new research from Forrester. Internet Retailer reports that 28 percent of North American online consumers are still holdouts: Of those, 62 percent cited concern about providing credit card info; 55 percent said they'd want to see, touch, feel an item before buying; 25 percent said they'd first look online, but buy at a bricks-and-mortar store.

According to Forrester, young women are the most reluctant to buy online. Most distrusting of providing credit card information were women 55 or older. "To accelerate adoption, retailers must gain trust from shoppers and focus on winning over young females - the most hesitant group of online shoppers with the greatest future spending promise," concluded a Forrester analyst.
