Congdon Bails Out of Rocketboom, Goes to Hollywood

Rocketboom anchor Amanda Congdon announced yesterday that she's leaving the video blog after falling out with her partner, Andrew Baron, according to Micro Persuasion's Steve Rubel, who cites a post on Dave Winer's Scripting News. The Rocketboom site attracts some 1.5 million viewers a week and has begun to also attract advertising, in addition to having signed a distribution deal with TiVo. "While Amanda will be sorely missed, we have big plans for Rocketboom and are determined to make the show better than ever," according to an announcement, on the Rocketboom site.

Rocketboomwhich features a daily three-minute news-like segment covering popular culture and technology, will be hard-pressed to find a replacement, since Congdon was, according to some, the reason most people visited the site, according to the Washington Post. Rocketboom attracted press attention because it has been able to turn video blogging into a profitable business.

The blogosphere has apparently been abuzz about who's at fault for the breakup - with Congdon having left the impressions that she was fired from Rocketboom (she owns 49 percent, Barron owns 51 percent), and Barron saying she wanted to leave for Hollywood in pursuit of an acting career. She hasn't appeared on Rocketboom since June 23.

"After Field Week and a week on hiatus, we know that you are hungry for the news! Rocketboom will be back with a news episode and an interim host this MONDAY, JULY 10," according to the announcement on the site.
