Vancouver-based Communicate.com has acquired Auctomatic, the Y Combinator startup, for $5 million in cash and stock. It is also changing its name to Live Current Media.
Communicate, now Live Current, is in the domain name business. Its owns 800 high-value domains — such as perfume.com and cricket.com — that generate ad and affiliate revenues, reports TechCrunch.
The company is now focusing on building branded properties around those domains, starting with Perfume.com.
Auctomatic's shopping engine technology will be a big part of the push, and social features will also be added.
Auctomatic enables sellers to make online transactions with ease on sites like eBay and Amazon.
