Coke and Apple Make European Music Together

In Europe, Coca-Cola is running promotion in conjunction with Apple and iTunes and is also planning to launch a music website.

Starting mid-August, Coke plans give away 70 million songs via Apple's iTunes music store in the U.K., and it will launch a European website that's integrated with iTunes, writes the CIO blog. Those who buy promo packs Coke and Diet Coke will get a code for a free song (up to a limit of five) from iTunes, up until the end of September. In Germany, every hour for eight weeks Coke will give away an iPod and 50 songs from iTunes.

Coke's new music site will launch next week for users in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the U.K. Integrated with the iTunes, it will offer exposure to new bands. Apple said it has sold some 200 million songs in Europe in the last two years.

iTunes has been targeted by some states there - including France, Norway, Sweden and Denmark - for using digital rights management technology that does not allow the music it sells to played on music players other than iPods.
