Look out, AP
CNN is creating a newswire service comparable to that of The Associated Press (AP), but smaller, with only about 30 stories published per day.
The company invited about 30 newspaper editors to a three-day summit in Atlanta to present the concept and ask for feedback,The New York Times reports. Details from the summit was subsequently shared through various online channels, including Twitter, user onemoreryan, covered the event in real-time.
According to livetweets (real-time Twitter posts) from the Summit, CNN shall run 8-10 national articles a day, about the same number of international and financial articles. The product will be far smaller than other wires, focusing solely on "the best of the best."
Affiliates of the CNN wire will receive access to all its content, unlike the AP, which offers packages of content to subscribers. Price was not discussed, but execs told attendees of the summit they'd provide more information after the new year.
CNN hastily added it was not trying to compete with the AP.
