Clearspring is poised to debut its own advertising network, which uses widgets as the delivery platform, reports Adweek.
Clearspring's Widget Ad Network enables media companies to create widgets that can be placed just about anywhere on the web and on mobile phones. Ads will then be sold within those widgets.
So far Clearspring has signed CBS, Huffington Post and other media companies to create widgets. Blockbuster, Visa and other top-level advertisers have bought ad space from the nascent network.
Widgets are eyed as the next big content distribution platform, with ads riding the coattails. Users like widgets because they bring information to where they want it, and add value and interest to their social network profiles or other sites.
Other ad-supported widget pushers include Gigya and ALOT by MIVA.
