Yahoo and Clear Channel Music Group announced a deal to promote Clear Channel concerts through Yahoo, using demographic information obtained from Yahoo's 176 million registered users to serve up local concert information based on users' ZIP codes, reports AdWeek. Yahoo's home page, Yahoo Music and other portions of the site will provide information on Clear Channel concerts and links for buying tickets. The move follows the release, according to MediaBuyerPlanner, of a Clear Channel survey showing that 70 percent of respondents get their concert information online.
The campaign comes in the wake of a decision by Clear Channel to increase online advertising, and one month after the company placed a large ad buy and promotion with AOL, writes ClickZ. Some 150 concerts will be promoted via banner ads placed throughout Yahoo Music.
Concert information can be targeted to a Yahoo Music listener's artist selection; if that artist, or one in the same genre, has an upcoming concert - the listener would be served up that information.
In June, Clear Channel conducted a large banner campaign and ticket sales promotion on AOL promoting Backstreet Boys shows.
According to Clear Channel, 70 percent of concertgoers say they go online to get show info.
