PaidContent: United Online to Buy Classmates.com
Low-cost dial-up internet service provider United Online announced it will buy Classmates.com for $100 million. Classmates has 1.4 million paid subscribers and a revenue run rate of about $72 million and earnings approaching $5 million. Classmates.com became a major internet brand over the past few years with an aggressive online advertising effort, much of it based on barter and low cost-per-action deals that exploited many consumer sites' vast stretches of unsold inventory.
