'City of Heroes' Hosts Virtual Gay Prom

Virtual world "City of Heroes," where members can design superhero versions of themselves, hosted its first LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, & transgendered) prom, according to Game|Life.

About 200 showed up for the Rainbow Prom, which one attendee described as "a Gay Pride celebration online." Festivities included electing a prom king and drag queen, followed by clothing-optional dancing. Attendees apparently partied so hard that the festivities forced "Heroes" owner NCsoft to reboot the virtual world several times.

NCsoft demonstrated its support of the gay community by providing its ski lodge venue for the prom. It also hosts a Pride Global Channel that allows LGBT players to communicate anywhere in the world.

According to Gay.com, the gay community is making inroads in virtual gay rights. Thus far, they've won the right to marry in "The Sims," "Fable" and "Fallout 2."
