In what's certainly more bad news for e-commerce players, some of whose customers are already wary of insufficient levels of online transaction security, CitiFinancial, a consumer lending branch of Citigroup, said yesterday that it is notifying 3.9 million U.S. branch network customers that computer tapes containing personal information were lost on the way to a credit bureau. DM News reports that the information included names, Social Security numbers, account numbers and payment histories. United Parcel Service was transporting the tapes when they disappeared, but there is no evidence that accounts had been accessed as a consequence.
