MediaPost: Fastest-Growing Ad Medium? Hint: It's Digital, But It's Not Online Or On The Tube
The Internet is moving over, along with other media, to make room for the growth of cinema advertising. In the past five years, it has grown at a compound rate of 38.4 percent, according to Veronis Suhler Stevenson (VSS), and is projected to continue growing 23 percent each year for the next five. In 2004, VSS projects cinema ad proceeds to amount to $470 million and grow to more than $1 billion by 2008.
In the past five years, consolidated movie chains have struck deals with content and advertising aggregators to produce much better pre-show content than before. What used to be universally loathed please-be-quiet videos have been replaced by attention distracting variety shows interspersed with sponsored content, making the 20-minute wait before a movie runs much more tolerable.
