Reuters: China's Sohu.com unleashes "search dog"

China's pre-announced new search engine by Sohu.com (Chinese for "search fox") launched, complete with a complete Chinese language portal at the address www.sogou.com ("search dog"). The homegrown effort hopes to compete with foreign firms Google, which partnered with domestic firm Baidu.com, and Yahoo, which runs the Yisou search site.

Sohu sells both paid listings and cost per click media. It made $2.4 million in search revenues in the second quarter of 2004.
