China is experiencing tremendous growth in the number of new broadband adopters in 2007, reports GigaOm.
The report comes from Dittberner Associates, which observes that China accounted for over a third of the 12 million new DSL connections in the first quarter of the year.
The figure appears brighter in contrast to India, where broadband penetration has been slowed by equipment problems among the country's two state-owned phone companies. Each pledged to narrow the adoption gap between the 2.3 million broadband users and eight million other Internet subscribers.
The slow growth could become a concern to investors pouring money into India for ventures largely dependent on speedy connections.
Faster broadband could also have secondary impacts on other Indian industries such as film, which could offer Bollywood favorites for download to a larger audience.
