Celebs Join MySpace and PayPal for 'Net Philanthropy Effort

Help Hayden save whales

Popular tween-targeting celebs, including Hayden Panettiere, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and HIllary Duff, have joined Paypal and MySpace IMPACT to stimulate online charity.

The medium of choice is a fundraising widget that tracks fundraising efforts to non-profits. The non-profit with the highest donation rate by October 13 wins a cash prize. Ad support includes sponsorship from Variety and Target.

Flip Video Mino Camcorders will also be raffled weekly. Visit MySpace.com/Paypal for more information or to create a widget for a non-profit of your choice.

The aforementioned celebrities are supporting the effort by sporting the fundraising widget on their MySpace profiles:

  • The Jonas Brothers: www.myspace.com/jonasbrothers
  • Miley Cyrus: www.myspace.com/mileycyrus
  • Hilary Duff: www.myspace.com/hilaryduff
  • Vanessa Hudgens: www.myspace.com/vanessahudgens

Each star was given the opportunity to support their own charity. Heroes star Hayden Panettiere, for example, is using the widget to help save the wales.

"PayPal and MySpace have played an important part in helping to raise thousands of dollars for the Whaleman Foundation, an effort I greatly appreciate because saving the whales and our world’s marine life means so much to me personally," she was quoted as saying.

A recent, slightly tongue-in-cheek survey by Bill Tancer of Hitwise found that Millennials' heightened interest in social networking correlates with a decrease in online pornography consumption.
