CBS Television has negotiated an agreement with its affiliates that gives stations a portion of the revenue generated from the distribution of network content across new media platforms, including internet, VOD or other offerings, MediaWeek reports (via MediaBuyerPlanner). The agreement also extends the NFL cost-sharing partnership with affiliates by three years.
In April, Fox TV announced a multi-platform agreement with affiliates giving them a cut of the advertising or revenue generated from ancillary distribution platforms for the next six years. NBC adopted a different strategy by partnering with its affiliates to create the National Broadband Company. ABC has yet to cut a deal with affiliates.
CBS affiliates will also receive revenue for any traffic they deliver to CBS.com or other CBS-owned internet properties. Some affiliates have not yet spoken up, but Freedom, Gannett, LIN, Nexstar, Meredith, and NY Times have already approved the deal.
