It’s March Madness, which means it's time to activate the so-called Boss Button again. While this probably started out as a joke, the Boss Button has gotten a lot of actual use - and at least one advertiser, writes Big Money.
A feature that allows web surfers at the office to hide, with a click of the button, what they were really looking at online with a business-like decoy image, the Boss Button got 2.77 million clicks during the 2009 tournament, Big Money reports. Last year it also landed Comcast as a sponsor for the Excel spreadsheet that served as the image.
Promoting Facebook; Other SocNet Tie-Ins
This year CBS has opted to use the Boss Image to promote its Facebook pages. As for the image, it is rumored to be a screen shot of an email that also has links to March Madness on Demand and CBS Sports’ Facebook pages.
While there will be surely other social media-related campaigns connected to March Madness, the one of most interest to sports fans is the new iPhone app that will stream live games.
Unlike last year’s version of CBS Sports NCAA March Madness On Demand app, this year’s doesn’t require a Wi-Fi connection, according to CNET. However the accessibility will cost: CBS has raised the price of the app from $4.99 to $9.99.
There is also a NCAA March Madness OnDemand Lite version that provides just the scores, stats, brackets, and basic tournament coverage. That is free of charge.
