AOL Radio: now sold by CBS
CBS Radio has entered into a sizeable sales and content partnership with AOL Radio, extending its audience to millions.
Over 150 of CBS' radio stations will be streamed on a new online player developed between the companies.
CBS will handle online sales for AOL Radio's 200+ radio stations, in addition to its own online streams and new custom channels. Advertisers can also purchase spots on the player through TargetSpot, CBS' web-based platform for buying streaming audio.
MySpace and Facebook are working on similar models to capture musically-inclined audiences, particularly in the indie scene. And other sites, like Textango and RCRD LBL, purport to serve as mobile and online-only labels, respectively.
The player will include presets like a non-virtual radio receiver. It will allow listeners to toggle between stations, view song titles and link to artist websites. Listeners can share and rate songs, and purchase music and concert tickets through the player.
The partnership gives AOL access to some of the most well-known radio stations, including Sports WFAN-AM in New York, Rock KROQ-FM in LA, and WXRT-FM in Chicago.
