To narrow down your selection of articles, click on the "AND" or "NOT" next to any of the categories below. Say you’re currently browsing entries in category "A", you can then drill down into entries that belong both to category A and another category, or belong to category A but not another category. For instance, you could list entries about demographics in the automotive sector, or entries about email marketing that are not about spam. Numbers in the columns below indicate how many entries the selected operation will narrow your query to. You can combine multiple intersection and exclusion criteria to further limit the number of entries.

Haven't Online Ad Sizes Really Kept to the Same Size?

A simple thought that just occured to me. Since new ad formats were introduced (e.g. CNet's square Flash ads,) conventional wisdom states that online graphical ads (as opposed to text ads) have been growing in size. That's of course true in absolute terms, but aren't we forgetting that computer screens increased in resolution at the same time? When the 468*60 banner was the overwhelming standard format, most people used screens set to 640*480 or 800*600, and at the time moving beyond 10  [...]

Is "Kick Through" a New Ad Format?

I was just reading the New York Times Online, that low grade publication that still serves pop-unders. I wasn't fully concentrating and forgot to zap the pop-under as it launched. Presented on my screen was an Orbitz ad with 6 reindeer faces on it. For some reason I decided to play with the ad. As I rolled over the first face the reindeer said "Orbitz" in a lapland accent. On moving my mouse cursor over the 3rd face the ad kicked me through to Orbitz's website. Interestingly it appears t  [...]

Yahoo Mail Runs Rich Media Audio/Video Ads

I noticed about 6 weeks ago that Yahoo had started featuring rich media video ads within Yahoo mail. Today for the first time (that I've heard) a video ad included audio. I'd just sent a mail, and had turned to another browser window, when my speakers begun blasting out an ad speal. My immediate reaction was to think that I was under attack from some Gator clone or something equally disturbing. Eventually after searching the 12 window that I had open, I found the source - Yahoo Mail. The ad  [...]
