Libya Takes Leap Toward Wifi Web Access

House Approves Financing for Rural American Broadband Network
The House Appropriations Committee just approved financing up to $6 billion to develop broadband networks in rural America.
"For every dollar invested in broadband, the economy sees a 10-fold return on that investment," the Committee preached.
The $6 billion-for-broadband is part of an $825 billion stimulus package that was posed to Congress.

Verizon Taps Microsoft for Exclusive Search, Ad Deal
Yesterday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced the development of a coveted liaison with Verizon Wireless.

Hawaii Meds Association Pilots 'Net-Based Doctor Appointments
For a mere $10, Hawaiian residents with 'net access and a webcam or text chat will be able to "talk" directly to their doctors about medical problems.

Website Rating System Hits Obama Administration's Table

White Spaces Could Morph into 'WiFi on Steroids'
Last Tuesday the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously to allow the unlicensed use of the white space spectrum.

BT Gives Phorm's Behavioral Ad Model Another Go

EU Commission May Declare Broadband 'A Universal Right'
The European Commission (EC) may establish that broadband internet access is "a universal right" during a review of its Universal Service Obligations (USO) for the region's telecoms companies.

Comcast Challenges FCC's Net Neutrality Ruling
Comcast is challenging the FCC's demand that it cease slowing internet speeds to heavy bandwidth users.
In early August, the FCC voted 3-2 against Comcast's practice of "throttling" broadband for users of peer-to-peer filesharing sites. Comcast was ordered to manage periods of heavy data flow in a less discriminatory manner.
