Levinson Leaves Google Board; Formal Divide Between Google, Apple Grows
Two months after Google CEO Eric Schmidt departed Apple's board, Arthur Levinson, who serves on both boards, has resigned from Google's.
The move was greeted with pleasure by the Federal Trade Commission, which is in the process of examining overlapping board memberships for companies whose interests compete. Google and Apple have increasingly crossed each other's paths with their introduction of rival mobile platforms: the iPhone and Android.

AOL Snaps Up Another GOOG Exec
This week Time Warner's AOL snapped up Shashi Seth for its SVP-Global Ad Products position. Seth worked at Google in a number of senior roles, such as product lead for web search and head of monetization efforts at YouTube.
In June 2008, Seth left Google to become CRO of startup firm Cooliris.
At AOL, Seth will manage the development of ad technologies and report to Jeff Levick, President-Global Ad Strategy. Levick also came from Google, as did AOL CEO Tim Armstrong.

Murdoch, Zucker Say Advertising on Upswing
News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch said this week that US advertising markets are "very much better" than they were four months ago.
And while revenue from News Corp.‘s local broadcast stations is down 20% from last year, results are getting better week by week, he added.

Stalzer Bows Out at IAC Ad Solutions
Rich Stalzer has resigned from his post as President of IAC Advertising Solutions, according to a report from paidContent.
A spokeswoman stated Stalzer will depart to pursue other interests, but assist with the resulting management transition. In the meantime, CFO Tom McInerney is overseeing his sector, which manages sales for Citysearch, Evite, March.com and IAC's ad network.

Obama Solicits Texts to 'See What's Happening' in Africa
Prior to his Friday trip to Ghana, President Barack Obama has received thousands of text messages about Africa -- messages of both support and criticism, says the White House.
The texts were sent after the Administration set up country-specific SMS codes to which inhabitants of Africa were invited to send messages.
