Marketers Brace as ICANN Switches on Global Web Addresses
Three Arab nations are the first to receive their own non-Latin based language world wide web addresses from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates now can claim their own "country codes" - i.e. 'eg' for Egypt but written in Arabic script - after ICANN fast-tracked the plan to roll out these top-level domains last October.

Twitter Fair Game for Serving UK Court Orders
The British High Court is permitting an injunction to be served to an anonymous user on microblogging site Twitter.
The user, who has been posing as right-wing political blogger Donal Blaney of website Blaney's Blarney, is accused to breaching Blaney's copyright.

Data from social media services vendor ViTrue says Tuesdays are the day in which click-through rates are highest on content posted on Facebook-based brand pages: 9.89%.

FCC Pressed to Incorporate Behavioral Targeting in Broadband Plan
In a set of written comments filed Friday, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to consider privacy issues associated with behavioral targeting when crafting its national broadband strategy.
In particular, the FTC referred to deep-packet inspection, which enables providers to "track a consumer's online activities to deliver targeted advertisements" while enabling them to "advantage or disadvantage certain content or applications."

Google Books Massages European Publishers' Concerns
Yesterday Google decided to make public concessions to publishers outside the US, part of an effort to ease concerns over its Google Books project.
In October 2008, Google was granted temporary approval for a settlement that enables it scan non-copyright-protected books -- including those whose copyrights have elapsed -- and put them online. Final approval of the settlement was delayed for a fairness hearing, scheduled this October 7th.

Bing & Ping Connects Search to Socnets; Windows Live Ominously Omitted
Microsoft is now inviting Facebook fans to test a new program called Bing & Ping, which enables them to share their Bing search results with friends on various social networks, as well as email.
