United Kingdom Cracks Down on 'Suicide Sites'
Since the Suicide Act of 1961, the United Kingdom considers it illegal to promote suicide. The act will be amended to include web publishers with so-called "suicide websites," and to help internet service providers police sites for such content, reports the BBC, following concerns that users querying for suicide information hope to locate sites encouraging them to do it.

British Proposal May Force ISPs to Fork Over Online Activity, Emails, VOIP Calls
The British Home Office is considering a proposal that would require British ISPs and telecoms to surrender records of customer emails, internet use, VOIP calls, and text messages.

Tax on Internet, Mobile May Replace French TV Ads
President Nicolas Sarkozy of France has proposed a bill that bans commercials on public television and taxes internet and mobile phone service, reports the International Herald Tribune.

Hands Off Virtual Goods -- Theft is Punishable by Arrest

Tech-Savvy UK Teens Suffering from 'Junk Sleep'
The UK's Sleep Council has announced that "junk sleep" -- where teenagers distracted by electronics get less than 8 hours of sleep -- could rival junk food as a lifestyle issue.
A poll of 1,000 teens between 12 and 16 found that 30 percent got four to seven hours of sleep at most. A quarter said they fell asleep more than once a week while engaged with electronics - with the TV, the radio or the computer on.

Ireland Issues First Prison Sentence for Music Piracy
The Irish Recorded Music Association has put a man in prison over music piracy, marking the first time the country has laid out such a sentence.
According to Listening Post, Martin McDonagh was sentenced for six months and given a 1,000 Euro fine after pleading guilty to copyright infringement charges.

UK Blacklists Off-Shore Gambling Sites from Advertising, Enacts White List Application Process
The UK government has just banned about 1,000 offshore gambling sites from advertising - across all media - within the country.
