Case Builds Online Health Portal

AOL founder Steve Case is taking the wraps off a new health information site he hopes will become a nationally known brand, reports The New York Times.

RevolutionHealth.com was beta-launched in January and has backing from Case, Carleton S. Fiorina and Colin Powell. Case is partnering the site with RediClinic, which operates mini health clinics in retailers such as Wal-Mart and Walgreen's. He hopes to make the site a ubiquitous brand within five years but observers cite established sites such as WebMD that have a foothold in the medical information market. The site will allow users to create their own personal profiles for health management.

Case has lined up several advertisers, but who they are will not be known until an announcement on Thursday. He did note that he's taking a cautious approach toward advertisers, especially regarding health care companies, in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety. On-site ads will be the main revenue source for the site. Drug companies are only spending a fraction of their budgets online.
