The Register: US proposes rigorous spam sentencing

The U.S. Sentencing Commission is treating spammers as though they were the equivalent of thieves, frauds and vandals. The Commission is treating many Can-Spam Act offenses as felonies, with suggestions for stiff penalties, including jail time. The sentencing guidelines, unless modified by Congress, will go into effect on November first.
