CNET: Lawmaker to AOL: You've got mail
A California legislator from Berkeley introduced a bill that would force companies sending unsolicited CD-ROMs or DVDs to also include self-addressed, stamped envelopes in which recipients could send them back. Loni Hancock said she introduced the bill out of concern for the environment.
The many millions of AOL promotional CDs, which at times seem to be sent with abandon, with individuals often receiving many within a week, spawned a small cottage industry on the Internet, with people developing alternative uses for the 5 inch disks.
