Broadband Now Mainstream: Traditional Media Get Feet Wet

Some 68 percent of active internet users in the U.S. had access to broadband as of February, according to a new study from Nielsen/NetRatings, reports DM News. The number of active at-home broadband users increased 28 percent from 74.3 million in February 2005 to 95.5 million this February.

PC use time is also greater now (30 hours, 36 minutes in February), compared with February 2003 (25 hours, 33 minutes), when broadband penetration reached only one in three active internet users.

Major broadcasters have begun to understand the opportunity - and threat - presented by the broadband revolution, which makes it possible for video content to cross over to the online world. The print world has also begun to catch on, with the New York Times and Forbes regularly running video reports from reporters, for example.
