ClickZ: The Professor and the Adman

Zachary Rogers profiles the descent of a semantics academic into the depths of marketing startups, wending a path from the hills of Wales to Cambridge, to a knighthood for his work on the English language, to wind up in the New York City Hilton's Clinton Room, flogging his search refinement technology in the midst of a bunch of Ad:TECH trade press reporters who barely made it through their undergraduate degrees. At least two hacks nudged table mates where a MarketingVOX reporter sat to nod over at the bespectacled old man with white hair rising almost straight upward. But Rogers interviewed him and found that his was one of the more interesting stories at the event, especially when treated with the wide-angle perspective of Rogers' piece.
